The Fridge is Red is a first-person horror game built around short, self-contained stories that twist ordinary settings into unsettling experiences. Set primarily in a creaky old house, the core narrative follows a father trapped in a basement with a sinister red appliance. The fridge demands constant attention, look away and the world warps into something stranger. Between this central story and other shorter episodes, the game leans into eerie environments and jump scares while letting tension simmer in quiet moments of unease. The game’s strongest moments come from its retro-inspired atmosphere and knack for turning mundane details into dread. Inspired by early 2000s horror games, it uses low-fi textures and flickering lights to create a claustrophobic feel. While some episodes fall flat, the central story about a father’s desperation to save his daughter has a gripping simplicity. Early reviews note a polarized reception, but fans of slow-burn psychological horror might find the fridge’s strange pull worth the occasional stumble.
A few weeks ago, Frank and his daughter Lorie moved into an old house. The previous owner of the house disappeared under unclear circumstances. One day, Frank found Lorie's favorite doll and crayons near the old red fridge in the basement. The fridge has turned out to possess otherworldly power and anyone who looks away from it will no longer see daylight. Frank has been sitting in the basement looking at the red fridge for several days already. Yet not only the fear of a terrible death keeps him in the basement, but also the hope of getting his daughter back.
