The Girl in the Tower of Steel is a historical mystery visual novel set in 1930s Yokohama. You follow Ritarou Akaike, a bookstore heir tangled in a conspiracy after witnessing a violent incident at city hall. Partnering with a sharp-witted childhood friend and a British embassy worker, you investigate a series of strange cases linked by cryptic visions of a towering steel structure and a ghostly child. Choices and dialogue drive the plot as you piece together connections between political intrigue, supernatural elements, and the enigmatic tower that haunts the story. The game stands out for its atmospheric setting in a real-world port city at the crossroads of Japanese and foreign cultures. With branching narratives and multiple endings, it leans into classic mystery tropes while weaving in historical details about Yokohama’s early 20th-century tensions. Released in 2020 for mobile platforms, it’s a concise but layered experience with art and voice work that lean into the moody, suspenseful tone. Players note the tightly written script and how the tower’s secrets unfold at a deliberate pace.
Ritarou Akaike, the eldest son of a family that owns a western bookstore, accidentally runs into a hostage standoff incident at the prefectural office. However, this was just the beginning of a huge scheme that had been meticulously planned. Ritarou, with the help of his childhood friend, Seiran, and Boris, who works at the British embassy, pursue difficult cases that continuously occur, which all seem to have some sort of inexplicable connection with one another. As they pursue such cases, time and time again they have a vision of a mysterious steel tower and a little girl standing next to it. Are these visions some sort of message? Based during the early Shouwa period in the international city of Yokohama, where foreigners were making huge strides, a story where mystery calls upon more mystery -- begins now.
