Headgate Studios released this shooter adventure back in March 2006 under Electronic Arts. You play as Aldo Trapani, a character created specifically for this game rather than one from the original movies. The story picks up nine years after his father gets killed by the Barzini family. After serving in World War II, you return to Little Italy and get recruited by Don Vito Corleone himself. You start as a small-time thief before climbing the ranks of America's most famous criminal organization. The game lets you take orders from the family while trying to make New York City your own territory. It launched on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 with voice work from James Caan and Robert Duvall plus Marlon Brando.
You spend most of your time controlling Aldo in third-person perspective while moving through a recreation of 1940s New York. The core loop involves accepting hit orders from family members, tracking down targets, and eliminating them with guns or melee attacks. You also manage territory by beating up rivals and taking over street corners to earn respect points. Sessions often involve walking around the open world, listening to radio chatter, and engaging in gunfights with police or rival mobs. The controls feel standard for a mid-2000s shooter, relying on analog sticks for movement and triggers for shooting. You can drive cars during missions or simply walk through neighborhoods to reach objectives. There are no multiplayer modes, so every interaction happens alone as you progress through the single-player campaign.
Players on IGDB have rated this title 73.9 out of 100 based on 139 ratings. Critics and fans generally agree that the atmosphere works well even if the mechanics feel dated now. Average playtime hovers around 15 hours for a standard run through the story without doing every side mission. Community moods often mention nostalgia for the film adaptation but note frustration with repetitive gang warfare sequences. Review snippets from the period praised the voice acting and setting while criticizing the short length. The completion rate suggests most people finish the main campaign but few return to replay it later. Some users point out that the combat gets easy once you unlock better weapons, which lowers engagement near the end of the game.
This title is worth playing if you want to step into a Corleone story without needing to own the movies first. The price was reasonable at release and remains cheap on secondary markets today. You can earn achievements for completing specific hits or taking over all districts, though they do not add much replay value. The 73.9 rating reflects a solid attempt that feels rough around the edges compared to modern standards. Do not expect deep strategy since the game relies heavily on shooting enemies and following simple paths. Finish the campaign if you like the era but know the content ends quickly after the wedding mission.
In Little Italy in 1936, a young Aldo Trapani witnesses his father Johnny, a soldato in the Corleone family, being killed by the rival Barzini family. Don Vito Corleone comforts Aldo, telling him that when he is old enough and the time is right, he will have his revenge. Nine years later, in 1945, Aldo returns from World War II after serving in the U.S. Army. His mother Sarafina visits Vito during his daughter's wedding, telling him that Aldo has fallen in with a disreputable group of young thieves. Vito sends Luca Brasi to find Aldo and recruit him into the family.
