The Grid is a chaotic third person shooter set inside a gory game show. You battle up to five others in close quarters deathmatches where points come from killing opponents and grabbing cash to boost your stats. Controls rely on a joystick, trackball for aiming, and buttons for shooting and jumping. The focus is pure mayhem with no frills, just run and gun in environments designed for tight combat. This Midway title leans into the same over-the-top violence as their 90s hits but feels rushed. Cameos from Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero and Scorpion add a nostalgic hook for longtime fans. While the six-player multiplayer mode was ahead of its time for arcade cabinets, the lack of depth and repetitive objectives make matches feel short-lived. Still, its frenetic energy and local couch co-op earned it a cult following among arcade purists.
