The Legend of Heroes IV: Akai Shizuku is a turn-based RPG with a large story of divine conflict and personal loss. You play as Avin and his sister Eimelle, investigating their mentor's murder while figuring out a mythic struggle between ancient gods. Combat relies on strategic positioning and skill trees, with battles interrupting exploration but not immersion. The game spans three distinct regions, each with its own puzzles and factions. Original 1996 release on NEC PC-98, later ported to PlayStation and PC. The narrative earns praise for its moral gray areas and character dynamics. Players often note how side quests tie directly to main plot twists, avoiding filler. Though dated graphics and slower pacing might deter newcomers, long-time fans highlight its role as a bridge between classic Falcom design and later refinements in the trilogy. The story's dual timelines and hidden lore rewards careful note-taking, making it a cult favorite among series completists.

The two youths embark on a journey to find the murderer and eventually discover the truth about their own role in events that will decide the fate of the world...
