About

The Legend of Zelda: Return of the Hylian SE is a 2D action-adventure by Vincent Jouillat that continues Link’s story after his victory over Ganon. Players explore Hyrule, solve puzzles, and battle enemies while collecting tools to progress. The game mirrors classic Zelda mechanics with top-down movement and a focus on item-based challenges. A post-credits event sets up a new threat as Ganon’s return disrupts the peace. The remake updates the original 2006 project with smoother animations and improved level design using the Solarus engine. The project leans into nostalgic Zelda vibes without official licensing, offering a fan-made take on the franchise. It retains the charm of older entries while modernizing visuals and controls. The single-player campaign has no major bugs reported, though the small development team kept updates focused on polish. Running on PC, Mac, and Linux, it appeals to players seeking a bite-sized but complete dungeon-crawling experience. The story bridges A Link to the Past and later entries, making it a niche but respectful homage.

Storyline

After Link’s victory over Ganon in A Link to the Past, no one knows what Link’s wish to the Triforce was. But this wish reunified the Light World and the Dark World and brought the Seven Wise Men’s descendants back to life. Peace was back in Hyrule. But unfortunately, this wish also ressurected Ganon and his henchmen. He was preparing his revenge, but he couldn’t do anything without the Triforce. One night, a familiar voice speaks to Link in his sleep…
