The Past Within is a co-op puzzle game from Rusty Lake that splits players between two timelines. One person explores the past while the other navigates the future. Success depends on constant communication as you describe environments and solve interconnected puzzles. The point-and-click gameplay focuses on observation and coordination, with each player's actions affecting the other’s progress. This is the first entirely co-op game in the Rusty Lake series, emphasizing teamwork over solo problem-solving. Released in 2022, it runs on PC, Switch, Mac, and mobile devices, letting friends play across platforms. The dual-perspective approach creates a uniquely challenging experience where miscommunication can lead to dead ends. Available since November 2022, it’s built for players who enjoy talking through mysteries with a partner.

Storyline

The past and future cannot be explored alone! Team up with a friend and piece together the mysteries surrounding Albert Vanderboom. Communicate what you see around you to help one another solve various puzzles and explore the worlds from different perspectives! The Past Within is the first co-op only point-and-click adventure set in the mysterious world of Rusty Lake.
