The Plutonia Experiment is a first-person shooter that throws you into a crumbling military base overrun by demons. The goal is simple: track down the final interdimensional portal, destroy its guardian, and prevent an apocalyptic invasion. The game keeps things fast-paced with retro-inspired mechanics and brutal enemy encounters that demand quick reflexes and smart ammo management. This remaster rebuilds the classic 1996 title using the KEX Engine, boosting performance with multithreaded rendering and adding mod support for custom content. Players can choose between the original MIDI soundtrack or a remixed version by Andrew Hulshult. Accessibility options and translations into eight new languages make it more approachable, while BOOM source compatibility ensures modders have room to experiment. Available on PC, consoles, and Switch, it launches August 8, 2024. Community feedback has pushed the game to peak on performance metrics, with many calling it the definitive way to play the sequel to Doom II.
