"The Roottrees are Dead is a great puzzle game and a great detective point-and-click game. There is a lot of reading to do, a lot of lore, and deductions to be made. The visuals and world-building are great. The soundtrack is excellent. The only thing left to say is that I hope there’s a sequel soon, or at the very least, another game from the developer in the same style. If you love detective games, you should definitely check out The Roottrees are Dead."

About

The Roottrees Are Dead is a point-and-click puzzle adventure that drops you into a convoluted family mystery. You play as someone digging through old digital records to untangle the Roottree Corporation's hidden past. The game leans heavily into a 90s internet vibe, with players clicking through early web interfaces, usenet boards, and clunky dial-up menus to find pieces of a fragmented family tree. It’s a slow-burn detective game where every click might uncover a new secret, but the real challenge is connecting the dots between generations of suspicious relatives and corporate shenanigans. What sets it apart is its commitment to the era it mimics. The clunky navigation and pixelated graphics aren’t just window dressing, they’re part of the gameplay. While some puzzles lean into the developer’s strengths in cryptic clue placement, it’s the atmosphere that lingers. If you’ve ever spent hours deep-diving into random family histories, this one’s got that same obsessive pull. Launches in early 2025 with a runtime that’s more about savoring the hunt than racing to the finish.
