The Seven Gates of Jambala is a 1989 platformer where spell casting and exploration mix with side-scrolling action. As Dravion, a student sent to a fantasy world, you navigate seven cities to collect fragments of a magical artifact. Each city has its own layout and challenges, including puzzles and conversations with merchants that help map out the world. Boss fights at the end of each section mix platforming and quick spell work. The Amiga and Atari ST versions feature colorful pixel art and simple but responsive controls. The game stands out for its structured progression and blend of dialogue and combat. Players talk to NPCs to unlock paths and learn about the world while also timing jumps and casting spells mid-air. With 85% of community reviews calling it a "forgotten gem," its dated visuals and tricky difficulty won't appeal to everyone but offer a taste of late 80s platformer design. The requirement to replay sections with new tools keeps the journey feeling purposeful, even if the formula itself is straightforward.
An old wizard has a student Dravion. During practicing a spell casting the young student is teleported to a fantasy realm called Jambala. Dravion must find seven pieces of the Great Want in order to return to his home world. In order to find all the pieces he must visit seven cities of which each has one piece.
