About

The Shape on the Ground is a first-person exploration piece set in a quiet, eerie town. Players wander through a handful of distinct scenes, each prompting a single open-ended question about what they observe. Answers are submitted via multiple-choice selections that feel more like personal reflections than puzzles. The whole experience clocks in under 30 minutes and branches into five possible endings based on your choices. There’s no combat, no score, just a steady push toward self-interpretation. What sets it apart is its focus on mood over mechanics. The sparse visuals and ambient soundscape create a meditative tone that lingers longer than typical indie adventures. While not a game in the traditional sense, it’s carved out a niche with fans of abstract storytelling. A small but vocal community online discusses their readings, with some calling it a “digital tarot” for its cryptic feedback loops. Not much happens, but the emptiness is the point.

Storyline

The Shape On The Ground is not a game, in the conventional sense. It is a short horror-themed first-person walking simulator experience which can be completed in 20 minutes. Consider it as a tarot reading : both a divination and self-reflection tool. A moment in time for yourself, a magick circle, to freely explore your inner world. Walk around a desolate town in search of the 12 dioramas where you will be asked a question. Answer truthfully, with the answer that best corresponds with how you are feeling. There is no right or wrong answer. Then you will be shown an ending and given a personalized reading based on your answers.
