The Simpsons: Bart's Nightmare is a side-scrolling action game where you guide Bart through a series of chaotic dream sequences. You’ll dodge obstacles, shoot enemies, and collect pages of homework scattered across surreal stages. The levels range from a violent Itchy & Scratchy cartoon to a sci-fi city ruled by TVs. Combat and platforming share equal weight, with some sections leaning into sports minigames. The controls feel tight for a 1992 title, though the difficulty spikes unpredictably in later stages. The game’s charm comes from its offbeat level design and Simpsons-specific humor. Each world feels distinct, blending absurdity with the show’s signature irreverence. While the single-player focus and dated graphics limit its modern appeal, fans of retro platformers might find it a fun curiosity. The Mega Drive version has the best frame rate but lacks a few stages present on the SNES release. Shorter sessions work best due to occasional repetition in enemy patterns.
Bart Simpson falls asleep while studying and dreams of a strange universe where TVs and fairies roam the streets. The player must find Bart's lost homework and progress through the various levels to keep the homework pages and eventually wake up.
