The Smurfs Travel the World casts you as Inquisitive Smurf and Smurfette on a globe-hopping quest to fix a shattered Magic Crystal. Each level takes you to a new continent where you leap over obstacles, solve simple puzzles, and collect crystal shards. The controls feel tight for a 90s platformer with smooth animations and varied environments from jungles to icy peaks. You’ll face off against giant crabs, rolling boulders, and other hazards while keeping an eye out for hidden collectibles. The game splits its focus between action and light exploration, requiring quick reflexes to navigate tricky terrain. This title stands out for its early environmental message, some versions task you with cleaning up pollution alongside main goals. While not as well remembered as other Smurf games, it holds a niche following for its colorful presentation and straightforward challenge. Released at the end of 1996, it capitalized on the franchise’s 90s peak but arrived just as newer consoles were shifting trends. The SNES and Genesis versions play nearly identically with minor graphical tweaks. At its heart, it’s a solid if unspectacular entry in the platform genre, offering 40-50 hours of bouncy, globetrotting fun for fans of classic cartoony adventures.
