The Snowfield casts you as a soldier navigating the frozen ruins of a WWI battlefield. Survival hinges on scavenging supplies, managing hunger and temperature, and navigating treacherous terrain. The story unfolds through environmental cues and fragmented encounters rather than direct dialogue. Sparse mechanics focus on physical endurance and resourcefulness with minimal combat elements. Built using a special method prioritizing organic storytelling over traditional AI or scripted events the game relied on extensive playtesting to shape its narrative flow. Developed by ten student interns during an MIT summer program it blends historical setting with experimental design. Released over a decade ago it remains a curious example of narrative-driven simulation with a minimalist approach to wartime survival. Runs on older systems via PC Mac or browser.

Storyline

In The Snowfield you are a lone soldier wandering the aftermath of a great battle. It is the dead of winter and you won't last long in the cold. But you are not alone.
