The Standard Model is an indie adventure game from Nizio Studios, released in late 2026. Set in a multiverse, it casts you as an undergraduate physics student dragged into a cosmic journey by a being called The Cosmic Entity. Each session involves exploring five distinct worlds, completing tasks, and uncovering hidden lore through collectibles and environmental storytelling. The game blends slice-of-life moments with quantum theory themes, offering a mix of curiosity-driven exploration and subtle narrative twists. Its first-person perspective and academic setting give it a unique vibe, though pacing leans slow. A niche pick for players who enjoy cerebral, narrative-led experiences.
The Standard Model revolves around walking, observing, and collecting notes. You roam each world’s environments, think quirky sci-fi landscapes and abstract settings, to find documents, interact with objects, and fulfill simple tasks like retrieving items or solving minor puzzles. Combat and action are absent; the focus is on absorbing details and piecing together the story through environmental cues. Sessions often involve hours of wandering, reading fragmented texts, and revisiting collected items for context. Controls are light, with a focus on free movement and item inspection. The Cosmic Entity acts as a guide, occasionally dropping cryptic hints. The game’s core loop is meditative but risks feeling repetitive for players seeking faster pacing.
PlayPile data shows The Standard Model holds a 4.3/5 user rating with 62% of players completing 70%+ of the story. Average playtime is 12.4 hours, with 28% finishing in under 10 hours. Community moods skew curious (54%) and contemplative (33%), though 12% report boredom. Critics praise its "ambitious concept" but note "uneven pacing." One review calls it "a love letter to physics students," while another criticizes "repetitive world design." Achievement completion rates average 89%, with 12 optional collectibles per world. Prices on PC start at $29.99, with 40% of players owning the base game.
The Standard Model is best for fans of slow-burn, narrative-driven adventures. It’s a bit pricey for its 12-hour runtime, but the multiverse setting and academic themes make it stand out. If you enjoy dissecting lore through environmental storytelling and don’t mind a relaxed pace, it’s worth trying. Avoid if you prefer action or structured gameplay. With 22 achievements, it offers light replay value, but don’t expect a gripping, fast-paced story.
The Standard Model is a first person story game story/exploration game set in fall of 2022. You play as an undergrad in his freshman theoretical physics class. As you doze asleep you are awoken by a powerful being named The Cosmic Entity. If you choose to accept, he promises to take you on an adventure throughout the multiverse and time. With his power, he is able to rip open the fabric of spacetime to transport you away from your boring college lecture into many different worlds! The Cosmic Entity will have you complete a series of tasks on each world to help give you an idea of what other worlds have to offer, however, as you explore the multiverse, you may discover a more sinister backstory. As you travel through the multiverse you can learn about the people and worlds which he shows you. During the story you can collect different objects and documents in order to learn about the realities in which you travel to. You can always view these documents later if something seems off...
