"Interestingly, half of what makes Terminator 2D fun is its painstaking reproduction of the movie on which it's based. Were it to have no relationship to a beloved IP, it would likely be criticised for its brevity, linearity, and general simplicity. Once fully beaten, you won't likely return to it for anything except a nostalgia hit, but T2 fans and 16-bit diehards will feel well-served by its detailed reminiscence.A great deal of the game's charm is derived from its novelty factor, and it's that novelty, in conjunction with some clever ideas and impressive authenticity, that should inform your purchasing decision."

About

The Terminator: SkyNet is a DOS-era shooter from Bethesda that expands on the franchise’s military sci-fi roots. Released in 1996, it swaps the series’ usual action for a slower, methodical pace as you navigate seven missions to prevent a nuke from launching. Levels range from a collapsing submarine to a Cyberdyne Systems basement, with daybreak slowly creeping in as you play. FMV cutscenes replace text briefings, and driving/flying sections return, though weapons and tech feel deliberately simpler than the previous game. Multiplayer focuses on deathmatch modes with up to eight players on LAN. Maps echo single-player locations but let you toggle between dawn and dusk, and vehicles become optional tools you can freely enter and exit. A standout twist: play as a Terminator unit, trading speed for durability and that iconic red-hued vision. While its 640x480 upgrade was ahead of its time, the game’s methodical design and prequel setting keep it niche. Casual players might find it dated, but tech fans appreciate its tactile, hardware-limited charm.
