"All told, I give the game a Buy in my Buy/Hold/Sell ranking. For all its flaws—and I realize that I've listed many—it is one of the most sprawling, magnificent solo RPGs ever made. It does too little to fix its mechanical problems, and focuses too much on creating an open world, but the quality of its quest design, world-building, and wonderful (if too large) cast of characters makes it a game that no RPG fan should miss. It may be a flawed masterpiece, but it's a masterpiece nonetheless."

CD Projekt RED released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in May 2015 as a definitive action RPG experience. You play as Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter navigating a dark fantasy world filled with political intrigue and supernatural threats. The story centers on his desperate search for Ciri while the mysterious Wild Hunt army destroys the Northern Kingdoms. This single-player adventure launched on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and later received updates for newer consoles like the Series X|S and Switch. It remains a massive open-world title where every choice ripples through the narrative landscape you explore.
Your day involves traveling across diverse regions, hunting monsters using specific oils and potions, and managing inventory in a complex menu system. Combat requires timing your parries and dodges while switching between three distinct steel swords and signs to counter different enemy types. Between battles, you read books, cook meals for buffs, and talk to NPCs to unlock branching quest lines that often diverge based on your dialogue choices. You can spend hours completing side contracts or exploring hidden dungeons without touching the main story. The controls feel responsive during fast-paced fights but slow down slightly when you are managing gear or reading lengthy text logs.
Critics have given this title near-universal praise with a Metacritic score of 92 and an OpenCritic average of 93 out of 100. Five thousand two hundred four IGDB ratings support a 92.8 average score. Our PlayPile community data shows players logging an average of 43.6 hours per session despite having only three active members in our recent log. The group describes the vibe as atmospheric, strategic, and heavily story-driven. Reviewers at Hardcore Gamer and GameSpot both awarded perfect scores, calling it one of the best games ever made. Achievements are tough to track since the rarest one, Master Marksman, has only a 1.80 percent unlock rate among all players who have finished the game.
This is a massive commitment of time and money if you buy at full price, but the historical low of $7.99 on Humble Store makes it an easy recommendation. You should play this if you want to spend dozens of hours in a living world where your decisions matter. The 78 available achievements provide long-term goals for completionists, though the average unlock rate sits at just 16.7 percent. Do not expect a quick fix or a linear shooter. Pick it up when it is on sale and prepare to lose track of time while hunting monsters in a world that feels genuinely dangerous.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt concludes the story of the witcher Geralt of Rivia, the series' protagonist, whose story to date has been covered in the previous installments. Geralt's new mission comes in dark times as the mysterious and otherworldly army known as the Wild Hunt invades the Northern Kingdoms, leaving only blood soaked earth and fiery ruin in its wake; and it seems the Witcher is the key to stopping their cataclysmic rampage.
