About The Wonderful 101: Remastered

PlatinumGames released this remaster on May 19, 2020 for Switch, PS4, and PC. It brings their chaotic action title back with updated visuals and controls. You join a global team of superheroes known as the Wonderful Ones to stop the Geathjerk Federation from destroying Earth during their third war. The premise asks you to take command of this squad using unity powers that let you reshape your heroes into giant fists or massive blades. It feels like a high-energy spectacle where one player leads a hundred others through alien hordes. The game balances single-player campaigns with co-op and online modes.

Gameplay

You control the entire team by drawing shapes on the screen or using motion controls to form weapons. Drawing a circle creates a fist while a triangle makes a blade. This command system dictates every action you take during battles. You switch between forms constantly to handle different enemy types and environmental hazards. The game offers single-player missions where you manage your squad alone or co-op modes where friends join the fight. Combat feels frantic as you must maintain your weapon shape while dodging attacks from hundreds of aliens. Strategic thinking matters because poor formation choices leave your team vulnerable to massive damage.

What Players Think

Critics gave the game a 78 on Metacritic, which reflects solid but not perfect execution. PlayPile data shows a completion rate of 62 percent among users who started the campaign. The average playtime sits at 14 hours for a full run through all chapters. Community moods lean toward energetic and chaotic with a 4.2 out of 5 average rating from verified players. Review snippets frequently mention the visual spectacle as a highlight while noting the learning curve for new control schemes. Only 34 percent of users have unlocked all achievements, suggesting the harder missions or specific challenges remain difficult for many.

PlayPile's Take

This title works best for players who enjoy fast-paced action and don't mind complex controls. The $40 price point feels fair given the content length and replay value in co-op modes. You will spend most of your time drawing shapes rather than pressing buttons, which defines the entire experience. The achievement list includes specific challenges that test your mastery of the formation system. If you want a game where you can turn into a giant sword to smash aliens, this fits that need perfectly. It is not for everyone due to its steep learning curve and chaotic nature.

Storyline

The game takes place during a third war between Earth and an alien terrorist organization called the Geathjerk Federation that has invaded the planet. The only hope for humanity is the Wonderful Ones, a group of superheroes working for the CENTINELS Planetary Secret Service, an organization created by the United Nations.
