About

There Was a Caveman is a pixel-art platformer where you control a barely clothed stone age fellow dodging traps and climbing jagged cliffs. The controls feel tight but the stages are deceptively tricky, filled with bottomless pits swinging vines and unpredictable boulder drops. Each death sends you back to the start with no checkpoints to cushion the fall. The humor comes from the absurdity of it all a caveman yelling in frustration as he plummets into a spike pit. The game leans hard into retro aesthetics with chiptune music and blocky graphics that harken back to 90s arcade titles. Its difficulty curve is brutal but fair with clear visual cues for hazards that aren't always obvious at first. While it lacks modern conveniences like save slots or adjustable difficulty the raw challenge has drawn a cult following among platforming purists. Short levels keep frustration manageable even as you reset for the tenth time.
