Thief's Roulette is a puzzle-heavy visual novel where 15 kidnapped players compete in deadly challenges designed by a host called Lady Luck. Developed by hiromu656 and published by Top Hat Studios, it launched on PC in January 2026. The game splits you into teams, forcing you to solve environmental puzzles while navigating social tension and moral dilemmas. If you finish a challenge last, your opponents vote to execute you. Think of it as a cross between escape rooms and survival horror, wrapped in a script full of twists and betrayals. Best for players who enjoy slow-burn narratives and don’t mind occasional pacing hiccups.
You navigate first-person puzzle rooms using mouse/keyboard, manipulating objects and solving logic-based challenges. Each session mixes inventory management (like finding a key hidden in a painting) with timed decisions during cutscenes. Between rounds, the story unfolds through visual novel-style dialogue, where you choose responses that might sway alliances or trigger betrayals. The 7 challenges escalate in complexity, often requiring lateral thinking, like using a rigged roulette wheel to bypass a locked door. Death is permanent, so mistakes cost lives. Sessions average 2-4 hours, but the game can drag during story-heavy segments. Controls are intuitive, but the UI for tracking team standings feels clunky.
PlayPile users rate it 7.8/10, with 42% completing all 7 challenges. Critics give it 84/100, praising the narrative but noting inconsistent pacing. Average playtime is 12.5 hours, though 23% quit before halfway. Community moods skew anxious (68%) and curious (51%), with 34% calling the ending “surprisingly satisfying.” Achievement completion sits at 79%, with the hardest unlock being “Last Man Standing” (3.2% complete). Pricey at $29.99, but 17% of players report replaying for alternate endings. Forum threads frequently debate “Was Lady Luck manipulating us?” and “Which puzzle was the worst?”
This is a niche pick for fans of high-stakes narratives and cerebral puzzles. While the story twists hit hard, the gameplay can feel sluggish compared to peers. With 120 achievements and a $30 price tag, it’s a moderate time investment that rewards patience. Skip if you want action or fast pacing. For those okay with slow reveals and moral gray areas, the final act delivers a punchy payoff. Your mileage may vary depending on how much you enjoy being trapped in a deadly game show.
You awake in a strange place surrounded by unfamiliar faces. You and 14 others have been kidnapped and forced to compete for your lives in a series of challenges, hosted by a mysterious woman called Lady Luck. When the group is split into 3 teams you learn the horrible truth of this game; to win means to sentence your opponents to death. Lady Luck proclaims these 15 strangers to be Thieves. And for this reason, she has brought them here, to fight for their lives. They must complete all 7 of Lady Luck's Challenges. As the game goes on, the more thieves die. In the end, only the survivors will be allowed to leave.
