Thunder Force II is a fast paced horizontal scrolling shooter from Technosoft. Released in October 1988 for the Sharp X68000 it builds on the first game with tighter controls and more aggressive enemy patterns. You fly a fighter jet through five stages packed with crafts and obstacles needing precise dodging and firepower management. The single player campaign keeps the focus on pure reflexes and weapon upgrades. The original X68000 version includes an intro sequence and a sixth stage that mixes top down and side scrolling perspectives. This extra level is omitted in the Sega Mega Drive port. Players who track these versions note the added stage raises the challenge but also highlights the original's sharper visuals. While some criticize the basic sound effects the gameplay remains brisk and punishing with community scores showing over 40% of attempts fail past stage three.
