Thunder Fox is a side-scrolling action game from Taito that pairs two heroes in a fast-paced adventure. Players control Thunder and Fox as they slash through enemies with knives, leap over obstacles, and switch between throwing weapons and using them in melee combat to save ammo. The game's straightforward controls let you focus on timing and teamwork as you progress through stages filled with traps and bosses. Its 1990 arcade release brought the formula to arcades and later the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1991. The game’s weapon system stands out by letting you use collected items like swords or whips for close combat instead of wasting ammunition. This mechanic keeps runs feeling fresh and adds strategic depth to fights. Though it shares DNA with classics like Rolling Thunder and Shinobi, Thunder Fox carved its own niche among 90s action platformers. It later resurfaced in the Taito Legends compilation for Xbox and PlayStation 2, introducing the game to new audiences decades after its original run.
