Time Commando throws you into a chaotic mission to stop a virus corrupting a military mainframe by zipping through different eras. You fight waves of enemies in fast-paced combat while solving puzzles to restore data. The gameplay switches between action and strategy as you jump from ancient history to dystopian futures. Simple controls let you punch, kick, and shoot your way through levels packed with enemies and traps. The single-player campaign keeps things tight with a focus on quickfire battles and time-sensitive objectives. The game’s frenetic energy and varied level design stand out, though it’s dated by today’s standards. Released in 1996, it was one of the earlier titles to blend beat-’em-up action with time-travel themes. While not a household name, it has a cult following among retro fans for its aggressive difficulty and quirky aesthetic. The PlayStation and Sega Saturn versions added smoother visuals but couldn’t hide the game’s occasionally clunky mechanics. Still a brisk, no-frills challenge for those nostalgic for 90s arcade hybrids.
