Tinhead is a 16-bit platformer where you control a star-fighting robot in a universe threatened by a stolen cosmic treasury. Your goal is to reclaim galaxies by navigating four distinct worlds filled with spiked hazards, airborne enemies, and boss battles. The game mixes fast-paced running and jumping with timed shooting mechanics let you fire in three directions while moving. Each level crams tight platforming challenges with collectible power-ups that range from temporary shields to speed boosts. The control scheme feels responsive despite the game’s age, balancing precision and chaos as you bounce between floating islands and labyrinthine caverns. The pause-and-scroll system lets you peek around corners without fully stopping, adding a layer of strategy to chaotic moments. While not exactly subtle, the game’s charm comes from its over-the-top presentation: pixelated aliens, explosive death traps, and a protagonist who’s equal parts tin can and action hero. With 24 levels and hidden areas to uncover, Tinhead offers a surprisingly meaty experience for a 1994 release. Its difficulty curve leans old-school, punishing missteps with respawns but rewarding careful play. The Mega Drive and SNES versions handle best, though all ports keep the core loop of dodge, dash, and destroy intact.
