Tokio is a side-scrolling shooter from Taito that tasks players with guiding a character through wave after wave of enemies. The game features tight controls and fast paced action where quick reflexes are key. Its split screen mode lets two players tackle levels together though coordination can get tricky as screens divide. Released in 1986 this title helped shape the genre with its challenging difficulty and dense enemy patterns. Though it never achieved broad commercial success it remains a favorite among retro arcade enthusiasts. The MSX2 port brought it to home systems but the arcade version is still considered the definitive play experience.
