Tokyo Highway Battle drops you behind the wheel of 72 high-performance sports cars racing through three carefully designed Tokyo highway circuits. As you tear through tight corners and straightaways, you collect points to swap out tires, tweak suspension, and boost power. The focus is on progressive upgrades and mastering real-world driving mechanics to outpace opponents. Gameplay is straightforward but demands precision with its tight controls and unforgiving curves. The game’s credibility comes from its collaboration with legendary racer Keiichi Tsuchiya and engineer Masaaki Bando, who helped tune the physics and handling. While the PlayStation version hit global markets, the Sega Saturn edition, exclusive to Japan, added extra cutscenes featuring Tsuchiya, known as the Drift King. Though overshadowed by later racing titles, its blend of accessible arcade racing and grounded mechanics earned a niche following. With a single-player focus and no online modes, it remains a time capsule of 90s circuit racing.
