Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint dropped in October 2019 from Ubisoft Paris. It lands on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Google Stadia. This tactical shooter drops you on Auroa, an island controlled by the rogue Wolves unit led by Jon Bernthal's Cole D. Walker. You play as Nomad after a rescue mission goes wrong and your team gets cut off from support. The setting mixes high-tech drone facilities with dense jungle terrain. You can tackle the campaign alone or squad up with three other players for co-op. It feels like a standard military simulation where survival depends on stealth and resource management rather than just running and gunning through corridors.
Sessions focus on crossing a large open world while managing health, stamina, and gear. You start with nothing but a parachute and have to scavenge for weapons, food, and crafting materials. The AI uses dynamic patrol patterns and drones that scan your position, forcing you to hide in bushes or move at night. Combat feels weighty when you engage enemies directly, but sneaking past them is often the only way to survive the early hours. You repair equipment at campsites and craft items using scavenged parts. The game offers a single-player campaign, multiplayer skirmishes, and co-op missions where your squad handles different roles. Controls feel responsive on PC and consoles, though the stamina system can get frustrating when you need to sprint across open fields while being hunted.
Players and critics have been mixed on this release. Metacritic sits at 59 out of 100 while IGDB shows a score of 58.5 from 110 ratings. Average playtime hovers around the 20-hour mark for most users who finish the main story. Only 14.3% of achievements unlock on average, suggesting a steep learning curve or grindy endgame content. The rarest achievement "Swiss Army Killer" sits at a tiny 0.10% unlock rate, proving how difficult specific challenges are. Community moods often lean toward frustrated when the game demands more patience than it offers. Some users praise the atmospheric sound design and realistic gunplay, while others complain about repetitive mission structures. The community sentiment reflects a game with potential that got lost in technical issues and grind-heavy mechanics.
This title is worth playing only if you enjoy slow-paced tactical games with a focus on survival elements over action. The $60 price tag feels steep given the 59 Metacritic score and average completion rates. Achievements are tough to get, especially the ones requiring specific rare drops or skills. You should expect to spend time crafting gear and avoiding detection rather than engaging in constant firefights. If you like co-op missions with friends who understand patience, this works better than playing solo. Skip it if you want a fast-paced shooter with polished mechanics. The game offers a solid military setting but lacks the polish needed to stand out in 2019.
The Wolves, a lethal ex–US Military unit of former Ghosts gone rogue, have taken over the island. Led by Nomad’s ex-brother-in-arms, Lt. Colonel Cole D. Walker, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, they have reprogrammed Skell’s drones into killing machines and are ready to use them, no matter the casualties. Nomad and the Ghosts are sent in on a recon mission, but their helicopters are shot down. Injured, without support, and hunted down, players will live an intense military experience as they fight to survive, take down the Wolves and regain control of Auroa.
