Tomb Raider Starring Lara Croft brings the series to handhelds with a 2D side-scrolling twist. Players navigate levels by running, leaping, and activating switches while managing a tight control scheme, 25 moves squeezed onto two Game Boy Color buttons. Save points let you pause progress, but precision is key when avoiding traps and solving environmental puzzles. The handheld format simplifies the core Tomb Raider formula without losing its adventurous spirit. This version diverges from prior games with a standalone story about stopping the Nightmare Stone, an artifact holding a trapped ancient deity. Set across Mayan and Inca ruins, the campaign pits Lara against rival treasure hunters trying to free the evil Quaxet. While the 2D perspective feels more like a platformer than a traditional Tomb Raider title, fans appreciate its portability and the challenge of adapting 3D mechanics to a smaller screen.
Lara's first venture into the handheld world, has her pursuing 'The Nightmare Stone' that holds inside a sinister deity. This deity, Quaxet, was imprisoned by the combined efforts of the Mayan, Aztec and Inca cultures, and now some nasty treasure seekers are looking to spoil it all by unleashing the evil. Having knowledge of this, Lara must set out to prevent the disaster from happening by finding the stone first.
