About Torchlight II

Runic Games launched Torchlight II in September 2012 as a follow-up to their original hit. This action RPG brings hack-and-slash combat to PCs, Macs, Linux, and later consoles like the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game features randomly generated dungeons filled with monsters you need to defeat for loot. It expands on the first title by adding overland areas and multiple hub towns alongside a longer campaign. You can create a character from four distinct classes and customize their look with various hair styles, colors, and faces. Pets return to help you fight and fish. This indie adventure offers a complete single-player or co-op multiplayer experience for anyone who enjoys grinding through endless caverns.

Gameplay

You spawn in a hub town before venturing into randomly generated maps where every run feels different. Combat happens at the click of your mouse as you spam skill buttons to blast enemies with elemental spells or melee attacks. Each of the four classes offers three separate skill trees so you can reshape your character build on the fly. You spend most of your time collecting gold, sorting through gear drops, and managing inventory space while pets follow you around. The game includes fishing minigames and allows you to take on missions with friends in co-op mode. Sessions typically last for hours as you chase rare drops or try to complete specific achievement goals without stopping to rest much between fights.

What Players Think

Critics and players have embraced this title since launch. Metacritic gave it an 88 out of 100 while IGDB users rated it 81.9 based on 319 reviews. The community spends a lot of time here with an average playtime that reflects the depth of its content. Players have unlocked 119 achievements across the board, though the average unlock rate sits at a modest 26.9 percent. Finding the rarest achievement known as Trash Magnate proves difficult since only 0.60 percent of players have earned it. The prevailing mood among fans is one of satisfaction with the loot loops and replayability provided by the random maps. Many users return to tweak their builds or tackle higher difficulty settings repeatedly.

PlayPile's Take

This game is worth buying if you like endless grinding and building different character archetypes. You can pick it up for as little as $1.59 on WinGameStore, which represents a 92 percent discount from the historical low. The achievement system offers plenty of side goals even if only a fraction of the community manages to find every secret. It is not perfect since the random maps can get repetitive after a while, but the price point makes the flaws easy to ignore. Grab it on PC or console and start your next dungeon run today without hesitation.
