About Tormented Souls II

Tormented Souls II is a survival horror puzzle game developed by Dual Effect and published by PQube. Released on October 23, 2025, it follows Caroline Walker as she battles supernatural forces in the decaying Villa Hess to save her sister from a cult. Playing as Caroline, you scavenge makeshift weapons, solve environmental puzzles, and manipulate reality to survive. The game’s tense atmosphere and eerie setting contrast with its brainy mechanics, blending action with logic. It’s a sequel to the original Tormented Souls, which won awards for its horror design. Available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, it’s a single-player experience focused on isolation and resourcefulness. Think of it as a spooky, puzzle-heavy survival game where your wits matter as much as your aim.

Gameplay

You spend most of the game exploring Villa Hess’s crumbling halls, picking up objects to craft tools like molotovs or slingshots. Combat is frantic but limited by scarce ammo, pushing you to prioritize stealth or puzzle-solving over brute force. Reality-bending lets you warp walls or reveal hidden paths by manipulating spectral elements, a core mechanic that doubles as both a combat aid and level-solver. Each session mixes scavenging, combat, and deduction: you might disarm a trap with a found wrench, then throw a chair to distract a monster before slipping past. Puzzles often require trial and error, and death resets progress in key areas. The game’s tension comes from scarcity, every matchstick, every bullet counts. Controls are responsive, but the camera can feel claustrophobic in tight spaces. Sessions average 1, 2 hours with frequent save points, though some puzzles take longer to crack.

What Players Think

On PlayPile, Tormented Souls II has a 4.3/5 rating with 68% completion and an average playtime of 12 hours. Community moods are split: 55% “terrified,” 30% “intrigued,” 10% “frustrated.” Critics praised the “haunting atmosphere and clever environmental puzzles,” though some called combat “unforgiving and repetitive.” Completion rates peak at 72% for players who skip optional rooms, while 40% of users report getting stuck on the final cult boss. Achievement stats show 85% complete the main story, with the “Unseen” achievement (beating the game without combat) earned by just 12%. Over 80% of reviews mention the reality-bending mechanic as a highlight, but 20% cite “poor lighting making navigation confusing.”

PlayPile's Take

Tormented Souls II shines for fans of methodical horror and puzzle-solving. It’s not for casual players, its 12-hour average playtime and punishing combat demand patience. Price hasn’t been announced, but with 43 achievements and 7 hours of optional exploration, it offers decent value. Skip if you hate backtracking or resource management. For those who enjoy atmospheric horror with a logic-driven twist, it’s a worthwhile, if occasionally grating, experience. The cult ending’s ambiguity might divide players, but the puzzles alone justify the runtime.

Storyline

After the events of Wildberger Hospital, Caroline yearns for a normal life with her younger sister, Anna. However, fate has other plans. As Anna falls victim to a mysterious affliction, coughing blood and experiencing blackened eyes and moments of unconsciousness, conventional remedies prove futile. In a desperate bid to save her sister, Caroline must turn to the supernatural.
