"The illustrations are beautiful, the dialogue is humorous, and it leaves easter eggs for those who have followed the series for a long time. And even if you ignore all of that, it's still fun just to play the game, even without paying much attention to its narrative. This was my first game in the Touhou series, and I already feel compelled to delve deeper into the series' past. Even with minor performance issues on the World Map playing in TV mode, the overall experience was very satisfying. Who knows, maybe we'll be able to see the older games in the series on the Big N's remarkable little hybrid console."

Touhou Eiyuu Musou is a fast paced action game where you pick from 12 characters and blast through 50 stages filled with fairies UFOs and other foes. Each level throws random enemies at you while you collect points to unlock new abilities. Terrain shifts between stages keeping the combat fresh as you hunt for bosses every five levels. Local or online co op lets you team up to take down waves of enemies though the lack of a set story means it's all about the chaos. The game leans into its arcade roots with tight controls and a focus on carnage. While smaller communities note the stage design can feel repetitive after hours of play the sheer number of characters and skill combinations keeps things engaging. With 50 levels to grind and a cooperative mode that scales well with friends it's a short burst of action that leans heavily into its rhythm based combat. No deep narrative here but the chaos and variety of enemies make for a solid pick for quick sessions.
