Touhou: New World swaps the bullet-dodging of classic entries for a slower paced action-RPG formula. Play as Reimu or Marisa as they leave their homebound Gensokyo to chase mysteries in the wider world. Combat mixes light platforming with turn-based spells and melee attacks. Upgrade abilities and craft gear between stages while uncovering why the magical barrier has failed. Both characters can be controlled separately or together in limited co-op sections. The story splits time between Gensokyo and unfamiliar urban environments. A new character's presence creates tension between the two worlds that affects later missions. Early access players noted the game's deliberate pacing rewards careful strategy over reflexes. Storyline

Isolated from the world by a mystical barrier, shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei and magician Marisa Kirisame live relatively peaceful lives in the land of Gensoukyou, when they find themselves transported beyond the boundary and into the unfamiliar territory of the outside world. After a chance encounter with Sumireko, a human girl obsessed with Gensoukyou and all its wonders, our protagonists eventually find their way back home—but now with an unexpected guest in tow. Sumireko's arrival not only heralds chaos for Gensoukyou, but also for the outside world and beyond! It's up to Reimu and Marisa to unravel the mysteries that threaten their home and restore peace to the lands.
