Tournament Cyberball is a sci-fi sports game where hulking robot athletes battle to score touchdowns while dodging a literal time bomb. Players call plays and control robotic linemen, quarterbacks, and defenders in a high-stakes version of gridiron combat. Every play heats up the ball a little more, fail to make first downs and it melts, blowing up anyone holding it. Offense and defense switch roles each play, with defenders choosing which robots to control and using speed bursts to disrupt. The goal isn’t just to score but to keep your roster intact as the action spirals into chaos. This sequel to Cyberball 2072 adds progression systems where earned cash upgrades bots from flimsy plastic to unbreakable titanium. Robot durability matters, take enough hits and a player explodes, letting the other team grab the ball mid-play. Arcade versions supported two or four players, with split-screen multiplayer adding to the mayhem. The mix of strategic play-calling and frantic robot combat made it a cult favorite on the Atari Lynx, with its over-the-top destruction and risk-reward gameplay standing out among 90s handheld titles.
