About

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen follows the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in a third-person shooter that lets you play as key characters from the movie. Switch between Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron, and others as you progress through a linear story driven by cutscenes. Combat blends robot and vehicle modes with set transformations, like piloting a Decepticon jet or dodging through tunnels in a hoverbike. The game limits free-form transforming but uses it as a tactical tool during fights and specific missions. A co-op feature lets a second player join as a Remote Weapon System, offering support with fire, shields, and energon sharing during single-player levels. The game leans heavily into movie tie-in aesthetics with detailed character models and set pieces. While transformation mechanics feel restricted compared to earlier entries, the co-op system adds a layer of teamwork to key moments. Released alongside the 2009 film, it spans multiple platforms including handhelds and consoles. Player reactions often highlight the multiplayer mode as a standout element, though its campaign is seen as a straightforward follow-up to the first game.

Storyline

The storyline is told via cutscenes that also allow for the player to easily transition from one character to the other. Playable characters on the Autobot side include: Optimus Prime, Iron Hide, Jetfire, Bumblebee. The Decepticon side includes: Starscream, Sideways (a new character), and Megatron. Though the game doesn’t allow transform wherever the player wants to, transformation has been introduced as special attacks during robot mode, as fixed alternate game modes (driving Shanghai tunnels as Sideways, and fly through the skies of Russia as Starscream) and, in both robot and vehicle modes, as special moves that give the player alternate abilities. For example, transforming as Starscream while flying will enable him to fly backwards as a robot to take out enemies behind the protagonist. For multiplayer, at any point during a single-player campaign a friend can join in as a "Remote Weapon System", which allows them to shoot enemies, erect a shield to defend and transfer energon between both players.
