Tranz Am is a high speed arcade racer set across a crumbling wasteland. You steer a vehicle through a broken America chasing eight trophies while dodging obstacles and cars that try to force you off the road. Managing fuel is key as you need to drive over gas pumps to keep moving. The track layout and hazards create constant tension between speed and survival. This 1983 ZX Spectrum title stands out for its tight controls and risk reward mechanics. It was among the first Spectrum games released as a ROM cartridge for the Interface 2 peripheral. Developed by Tim and Chris Stamper who later co-founded Rare, it shows early signs of the studio's knack for addictive gameplay loops. With its frantic pace and scarcity of resources the game still feels like a tense little challenge decades later.
