About

Treasure Quest is a puzzle game where you navigate a professor's mansion by solving word-based puzzles. Each room requires identifying a famous quote using visual hints, scrambled words, and anagrams. Progress depends on piecing together clues to unlock the next area. The goal is to crack all puzzles and claim the titular treasure. The game includes a soundtrack with hidden hints from Jody Marie Gnant, daughter of the publisher's CEO. Sirius Entertainment ran a real $1 million contest for the first player to solve the game's meta-puzzle, active until 1999. While no winner was announced, the blend of cryptic challenges and tangible rewards made it a curious artifact of 90s PC gaming.

Storyline

In Treasure Quest, the player moves from room to room in the mansion of Professor Jonathon William Faulkner, who has bequeathed 1 million dollars to any student who can solve the puzzles he has laid out. To move from one room to the next, players must find a famous quote from visual clues, words and anagrams, and then derive an ultimate solution to the game.[1] The soundtrack featured 11 songs by Jody Marie Gnant (daughter of Sirius Publishing's CEO, Richard A. Gnant,[2][3]) some of which contained clues. In a unique marketing ploy, Sirius Publishing, Inc. offered a $1,000,000 prize to the first eligible player who could solve the mystery of Treasure Quest and submit an explanation of the solution to the complete satisfaction of a panel of judges.[7] The contest would end on December 31, 1999 if no winner was determined.
