Trials of Mana revives a 1995 Japanese RPG with updated visuals and mechanics. You lead a trio chosen from six characters through a story where magical energy is fading and ancient evils stir. Combat uses a turn-based system with timed button presses for critical hits. Each character can shift between classes like warrior, mage, or thief, reshaping party strategies. The narrative splits into multiple branching paths based on choices, leading to several endings. The game’s pixel-art style feels crisp and nostalgic, balancing modern polish with retro charm. It received 82/100 on Metacritic, with praise for its deep character customization and varied quests. Over 60 hours of playtime are common for completionists due to side missions and equipment upgrades. Available on seven platforms, it lets players tackle the story on phones or consoles. Classic JRPG fans appreciate the lack of modern hand-holding, though newer players might find the difficulty curve steep.

She sealed the horrors inside the eight Mana Stones, bringing the realm back from the brink. Weakened from rebuilding the world, the Goddess changed herself into a tree and fell into a deep sleep for many years. However, the forces of evil soon sought to free the Benevodons to gain control of the world. They started a terrible war to further their plot and destabilize the kingdoms. Peace was at an end. Mana itself began to disappear from the world and the Mana Tree started to wither...
