About Twelve Minutes

Twelve Minutes is a point-and-click puzzle thriller developed by Luis Antonio and published by Annapurna Interactive. It launched on August 19, 2021, across PC, consoles, and mobile. The game stars James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe in a tense narrative about a husband trapped in a 12-minute time loop during a violent home invasion. Players repeatedly relive the same chaotic hour, piecing together clues to escape the cycle. The setting is a single apartment, but the real-time mechanics force quick thinking. It’s a claustrophobic, dialogue-driven experience where every second counts.

Gameplay

Twelve Minutes plays out in real-time, with players clicking to move the protagonist around a 2D apartment. Every loop lasts 12 minutes, interact with objects, collect items, and converse with characters to uncover secrets. The detective’s unpredictable attacks force pauses, demanding you hide or dodge. Inventory management is key; missed items in one loop can be critical in the next. Dialogue choices shift the story, but the loop resets unless you trigger a new path. The game’s pacing is relentless, blending puzzle-solving with survival tension. Sessions feel like a frantic sprint, and the lack of save points adds pressure.

What Players Think

PlayPile community data shows 89% of players finish the game, with an average completion time of 2.5 hours. 100% achievement completion takes 4.5 hours, focusing on hidden dialogue and alternate endings. IGDB scores it 73/100 (224 ratings), while PC Gamer called it “a masterclass in tension.” Community moods lean suspense (72%) and frustration (45%), though 63% praised its clever loop design. Critics noted the lack of branching narratives as a missed opportunity, but most agreed the trio’s performances elevate the experience.

PlayPile's Take

Twelve Minutes is a niche pick for fans of tight narrative puzzles and real-time thrills. It costs $15 on most platforms, making it a low-risk buy for short playthroughs. The game’s strength lies in its compact, rewatchable structure, but its limited replay value and linear story may deter some. Achievements are modest, rewarding only 100% completion. If you enjoy looping narratives and quick deduction challenges, it’s worth a play. Otherwise, it’s a brief but polished experiment.

Storyline

You take the role of the husband, on what should be a romantic evening with your wife. The night turns into a nightmare when a police detective breaks into your home, accuses your wife of murder and beats you to death. Only for you to find yourself immediately returned to the exact moment you opened the front door, stuck in a 12 minute time loop, doomed to relive the same terror again and again. Unless you can find a way to use the knowledge of what’s coming to change the outcome and break the loop.
