About

Twilight Syndrome Kyuumei-hen follows three high-school girls as they investigate eerie mysteries in a mix of side-scrolling exploration and visual-novel style choices. You control Yukari, Mika, or Chisato as they search for clues in 2D environments, interact with digitized character sprites, and make decisions that shape the narrative. The game spans six self-contained stories that pick up where the first game left off, blending horror and schoolyard adventure as the trio encounters ghosts, cursed objects, and unsolved disappearances. The first scenario centers on a deceased girl’s spirit lingering near a mountain trail, pushing Mika to investigate while her friends search a haunted campus. Despite its 1996 PlayStation release, the game’s atmospheric storytelling and branching scenarios have earned it a cult following. Fans praise its spooky tone and early visual-novel mechanics, though dated graphics and a niche audience mean it’s more of a curiosity than a standout. Still, it holds a place in retro adventure circles for its dedicated approach to spooky schoolgirl mysteries.

Storyline

Kyuumei-hen is a direct sequel to the first Twilight Syndrome game, continuing the spooky adventures of the three brave and reckless high-school girls: Yukari, Mika, and Chisato. The first mystery involves a girl named Sakura Himegami, who was killed in an accident many years ago; apparently, her ghost is still around somewhere. The trail leads to an abandoned path in the mountains; Mika decides to venture there, while the other two are going back to school at night, hoping to find more clues.
