Uchuusen Cosmo Carrier is a 1987 shooter-strategy hybrid where you command a mobile base ship and three deployable mechs to track and destroy alien forces. From the cockpit of your Cosmo Carrier, you scan planets, moons, and enemy craft using a command console that lets you launch missiles, fire lasers, toggle shields, and send mechs to the surface. Each mech explores environments, battling turrets and collecting intel to locate the alien fleet. Missions unfold across the solar system as you warp between locations, repair damaged units, and manage limited weapons and shields. The game balances real-time targeting with strategic planning, as every action eats into a 100-day countdown to Earth’s destruction. What sets it apart is the tight integration of space combat and planetary exploration. The console-like interface, with its Missile, Beam, and Move commands, feels ahead of its time, blending arcade action with resource management. Though buried in the Famicom library, its hybrid gameplay has earned retro enthusiasts praise for its inventive mechanics. The urgency of the ticking clock and the need to juggle ship upgrades with mech deployments create a tense, methodical experience. For Famicom-era depth and variety, this one stands out among its peers.
When the moon departed from its usual orbit sometime in the year 1999, Nostradamus' prediction finally become true. A huge squadron of spaceships piloted by hostile alien forces came out of an artificial planet constructed near Pluto. A ragtag defense force has been assembled by the leaders of humanity in the hopes of being able to fend of the invasion. Only a photon missile, invented by the extraterrestrials themselves, can destroy this fake planet and bring a halt to this invasion. The earth only has 100 days left to live unless the commander of the Cosmo Carrier can succeed in his duties.
