Ultimate Winter Games packs four chilly competitions into one portable package. Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding let you race slopes or string together midair flips for points while Bobsled requires balancing speed and control on icy tracks. Curling rounds out the roster as a slower-paced strategy game where precision sliding takes center stage. Each sport features 10 distinct courses and single-player modes focused on timing and scoring. The Game Boy Advance's screen handles three of the events in 3D while Curling sticks to top-down 2D. Two-player local matches are possible via link cable. The standout is the surprisingly solid 3D engine for its era which gives skiing and snowboarding a dynamic feel without slowing the action. While not as technically ambitious as modern games this 2004 title still offers a neat cross-section of winter sports on the go. The bobsled mode in particular nails the frantic weight-shifting mechanics. With four varied events and link-up play it’s a compact but varied sports collection that’s still functional on older hardware.
