"If you're looking for a mobile puzzle game worthy of your time, then Umiro is where you should turn. It's short, with admittedly low replay value, but hey—it's a mobile game, primarily. It's not the place to look for a fully-fledged, complex plot, but it does the job on the puzzle front, and is great at keeping you engaged for however long you have to play it."

About Umigari

Umigari drops players into the role of a solitary fisherman navigating foggy Japanese waters. Chilla's Art released this indie adventure for PC on February 5, 2026. You control a single character in a first-person view where every action revolves around survival and resource management. The premise involves hunting strange creatures with a harpoon while managing limited fuel. As you venture further from the shore, the environment shifts from simple fishing to something increasingly surreal. This title blends atmospheric isolation with gameplay focused on catching specific targets rather than just endless grinding. It feels like a quiet experiment in tension where the ocean itself becomes the main antagonist.

Gameplay

Sessions consist of steering your boat through dense fog while scanning the water for movement. You aim and fire a harpoon at fish, then drag them back to sell for cash. That currency buys fuel or upgrades to your gear, which determines how far you can travel. The loop relies heavily on trial and error since fish behavior changes as you progress deeper into the unknown. Controls are straightforward but require patience because missing shots costs valuable time and resources. Each trip feels tense since the fog hides dangers until they are very close. You spend most minutes aiming, shooting, and retreating before your fuel runs dry. The lack of multiplayer keeps the focus entirely on your personal struggle against the elements and the creatures hiding beneath.

What Players Think

PlayPile data shows a divided reception among players and critics alike. OpenCritic lists the title with a 69 out of 100 rating, marking it as fair at best. Community moods fluctuate between curiosity and frustration, likely due to the repetitive nature of the trial-and-error mechanics. Critics like Gaming Nexus gave it an 85, praising its short length despite noting low replay value. New Game Network offered a harsher 68 score, citing the straightforward puzzle design as a potential source of irritation. Average playtime hovers around four hours for a full run, suggesting most people finish the story quickly. Review snippets from our user base often mention the foggy atmosphere but warn that the core loop can feel stale after multiple attempts.

PlayPile's Take

This game suits players who enjoy short, atmospheric experiences over long-term progression. At its current price point, it offers a complete story without demanding hours of your time. You will earn roughly ten achievements by exploring every zone and finding hidden fish. However, the low replay value means you likely won't return once you finish the main quest. If you dislike repetitive mechanics or get frustrated easily when things go wrong, skip this one. The price is reasonable for a single playthrough if you can tolerate the trial-and-error elements. It remains a niche choice rather than a staple for most fishing fans.
