U.N. Squadron is a fast paced side scrolling shooter where you pilot increasingly powerful jets through waves of enemies. Choose from three pilots with distinct playstyles and start with a basic F8E Crusader. As you complete missions you earn cash to upgrade to faster tougher planes with better weapons including napalm. Each level throws waves of targets at you from sand bases to submarines requiring quick reflexes and smart fire management. The game emphasizes gradual progression as early weaknesses force careful play while later upgrades let you blaze through obstacles. The game stands out for its tight co op mode letting two players share a single aircraft. Its 1989 release brought arcade style action to home consoles with challenging but fair difficulty. While not as visually flashy as later shoot em ups its brutal enemy patterns and aircraft customization keep it feeling rewarding. The SNES port added slightly better visuals but the core remains a straightforward test of firepower and precision.
