UnDune II is a stripped down strategy game that pits three rival factions against each other on the desert planet Dune. Built from scratch using the PICO-8 fantasy console it captures the real time resource management and base building of the original Dune II while working within 128x128 pixel limits. Players gather materials construct outposts and command units to dominate the spice rich landscape. The charm lies in the challenge of recreating complex strategy mechanics in a retro format. Despite pixelated visuals and simplified controls the core loop of expanding territory and managing limited resources feels surprisingly intact. Available on PC Mac Linux and browsers since 2022 it offers a no frills throwback for those who remember the 90s RTS era or want to experience it in miniature.
