Up Periscope puts you in charge of guiding a convoy through enemy-infested waters. Your mission is to get at least half the ships to their destination within a time limit while fending off U-boats. Six destroyers serve as your tools, each with sonar to locate subs and a limited stock of depth charges and torpedoes. Every turn gives you just a few moves, forcing tough choices between defending the convoy and hunting down hidden threats. What makes it memorable is how it distills naval strategy into tight decision loops. The TRS-80 and Dragon 32/64 versions deliver a stripped-down but methodical challenge, where missteps cost lives. Multiplayer adds another layer of pressure as human opponents adapt to your tactics. Despite its 1980s roots, the focus on resource management and risk-reward tradeoffs keeps it feeling sharp for players who enjoy thinking several steps ahead.
