About

Up'n Down is a 1983 arcade racer where you steer a beetle-like dune buggy through a vertically scrolling road that curves and splits into multiple lanes. Pressing up or down adjusts your speed, left or right swaps lanes at junctions, and a jump button lets you leap over obstacles or land on top of them for bonus points. Each round requires collecting 10 flags scattered along the path, with missed ones reappearing later. The road's hills and dips affect momentum, and one misstep into grass or water ends your turn. The game’s pseudo-3D perspective and responsive controls set it apart, even in 1983. Its mix of timing, lane management, and risk/reward decisions (jumping on cars for points vs avoiding collisions) keeps the action tight. Running on platforms from DOS to ColecoVision, it’s a relic of early arcade design that still feels surprisingly snappy. With no modern remakes, it’s a niche pick for retro fans who want a no-frills challenge.
