About

Velvet Dark was supposed to be the next step in the Perfect Dark universe before development stopped. Players would have controlled Joanna Dark's sister in a third-person stealth action adventure on the Nintendo 64. The design documents show plans for both single player campaigns and multiplayer modes where you could pick up as a co-op character in the original game. It looks like Rare intended to support this with a Game Boy Advance companion title similar to their previous cross-platform unlocks, but that never materialized. The project died after the GameCube announcement in 2000, leaving only a table of contents page from October 30th as proof it ever existed. Gregg Mayles shared this snippet on Twitter in 2015 for fans curious about what got cut. There are no community ratings or player scores to analyze since the game never saw the light of day. What stands out is how much content was planned before the cancellation happened. You get a glimpse into an alternate timeline where Joanna's sister gets her own full story instead of just appearing as a helper.
