Venture II is a rare sequel to the 1982 Atari 2600 game Venture, developed by Tim Snider. Only 24 copies were ever made. The first four were test cartridges labeled with Greek letters. Snider later released 20 numbered versions at the 2001 Classic Gaming Expo. One of those sold for over $200 at auction. The game itself is a maze-based action title where players navigate rooms to collect keys and escape, similar to its predecessor but with updated graphics and sound. What stands out is the over-the-top packaging. Each copy came in a handcrafted wooden chest lined with gold leaf paper. Inside was the cartridge and a manual, all presented like a buried treasure. Today you can buy a version without the chest from AtariAge. It includes a new 12-page manual by Dale Crum. With its limited run and collector appeal, this game has become a niche obsession for retro enthusiasts.
