Voodoo Nightmare casts you as Boots Barker a man cursed to wander a jungle after being abandoned by his wife and friend during a hot air balloon trip. A voodoo mask traps him in a land of five temples and dense foliage where progress hinges on collecting diamonds solving spatial puzzles and defeating enemies. Each temple requires gathering all gems and presenting them to a godlike statue to unlock new powers. These abilities let Boots slide through tight spaces trigger traps or blast through obstacles. Alongside temple runs you can trade fruit and jewels at jungle shops for weapons maps or explosives or test your luck at gambling dens. The isometric view lets you pivot and plan moves but enemies and environmental hazards keep tension high. What lingers is the game's clever interweaving of resource management and puzzle design. Every action from bouncing on springs to timing enemy kills feeds into unlocking paths. Though released in 1990 its mix of exploration and reward loops feels surprisingly modern. The absurd premise and quirky details like cursed masks and jungle casinos give it a cultish charm. Players stuck in its world will find satisfaction in piecing together its temple logic and outlasting its many traps.
Boots Barker does not have a good day. His wife and his best friend cheated on him and during a balloon trip over Africa, they leave him there to die. And he probably will because a medicine man forced him to wear a voodoo mask which prevents him permanently to leave the jungle. To get rid of the thing, he needs to find this medicine man.
