Wakerunners was a fast-paced team brawler where four or five players fought in top-down arenas using high-speed gliders. You and your squad would zip across maps while shooting and slashing opponents in chaotic 4v4 or 5v5 matches. The game relied on momentum to let you dodge attacks and close the distance quickly, making every fight feel frantic. Your team had to coordinate moves to survive the relentless enemy pushes and claim victory before time ran out. The project never actually reached a full release despite its promising setup. A final note from the developers stated they pulled the game after a Steam Next Fest playtest showed the core loop needed major work. They decided not to fix it and canceled development permanently instead of shipping an incomplete product. While the story about lunar resource wars and biometric chips sounded cool on paper, players never got to see if the gameplay could match that promise. The cancellation leaves this potential entry in the hack and slash genre unfinished.
The rise of the human Wakers, empowered by biometric data storage chips (BDS), has propelled humanity into an era of rapid progress. However, a viral outbreak has left them with irreversible choices. Forced into a corner, governments, entrepreneurs, and military organizations worldwide end up breaking a piece of the moon, hurtling it back to Earth. This initiates an endless descent of civilizations into chaos, where the greed of a few exacts a heavy toll on the many. Now, the Resource War for coveted Lunium ignites within the unions, an essential element for fueling 'Swift Gliders.' These items grant the ability to traverse the newly created anti-gravity landscapes.
